Step onboard the Princess F55 – an owner’s insider perspective on life with Mango

Published in Yacht Ownership on

The Princess F55 is a yacht that balances presence with practicality. Positioned at the heart of the Princess F Class range, this 55-foot flybridge yacht delivers a refined balance of space, performance and everyday usability. YachtBuyer Reviews Director, Jack Haines, recently stepped onboard with Henry, owner of Mango, to find out what it means to buy, run and live with his Princess F55.

Measuring just under 18 metres in length, the F55 offers the comfort and authority of a larger yacht while remaining comfortably manageable for regular owner operation, an equilibrium that has proven central to Mango’s life on the water.

Bigger in every respect

Henry took delivery of his yacht in 2023 and the move to the Princess F55 was a carefully considered step. Experience with previous yachts had clarified what mattered most: build quality, understated timeless styling, and a balanced capability that actively encouraged regular use.

Henry was very familiar with the brand as a previous owner of a Princess 42 before settling for over a decade with a Princess 50. However, the turning point on the change of yacht came at a boat show where Henry stepped aboard the F55 where she clearly stood out - not simply for her length, but for how effectively her dimensions translated into usable interior and exterior space – volume and qualities that have only become more valued over time.

“You know when you go on something and it just ticks all the boxes. It was bigger in every respect.”

For Henry, the F55’s appeal was not defined by any single feature but by how consistently it met requirements across the board with space, usability and finish all aligned.

Design with purpose

Throughout the yacht, spaces feel calm, resolved, and intentionally proportioned. On the main deck, the transition between saloon, galley and cockpit is fluid, supporting sociable living without compromising privacy.

Natural light reinforces a sense of openness while materials and finishes are selected for longevity rather than effect, creating interiors that feel just as appropriate after extended use as they do during those first few days onboard. This approach has proven particularly well suited to Mango’s mixed programme of private cruising and charter operation.

Practical flybridge layout

Having moved away from sports boats, Henry valued the practicality of a flybridge yacht that required minimal setup and offered immediately usability. The F55’s flybridge delivers exactly that balance, combining generous seating, a well-judged helm position and clearly defined social space without feeling oversized.

One of the most spacious in its class, the layout supports both relaxed cruising and sociable entertaining, with a wet bar, dining area and convertible sunpad.

“This is absolutely spectacular. We can comfortably get twelve people up here.”

The cockpit is equally appreciated for its flexibility as both an open and enclosed space, depending on conditions.

Spacious, understated interiors

The interior volume of the F55 continues to impress in everyday use. The single-level saloon offers generous seating capacity, expansive windows and excellent storage, often an overlooked but invaluable strength for longer stays.

The aft galley layout links cockpit, saloon and flybridge into a cohesive flow, particularly effective when the yacht is in charter use. Below deck, three well-proportioned cabins supported extended cruising, with the full-beam owner’s stateroom offering a sense of space more commonly associated with larger yachts.

For Henry, this represented a meaningful step forward in comfort without unnecessary complexity.

“The first night we spent on board, it felt like being in a hotel.”

In Mango’s case, the optional crew cabin was replaced with additional storage, further underlining the yacht’s flexibility.

Composed and confidence inspiring underway

Underway, the F55 delivers composed, predictable handling that encourages relaxed cruising. Powered by twin Volvo Penta D13 engines, she offers strong cruising performance alongside the reassurance required for extended passages and varied conditions.

The addition of a Seakeeper 9 stabilizer has proven transformative, significantly enhancing comfort both at anchor and during slower passages, an investment Henry considers a genuine gamechanger.

Versatility without compromise

Operating Mango across both private and charter contexts has underscored the F55’s inherent versality. Guests consistently respond to the sense of space, light, and solidity on board, while the layout allows seamless transition between different styles of use.

Crucially, the yacht stays true to her original intent, combining capability, refinement, and effortless versatility.

A reflection of Princess philosophy

Mango is a clear reflection of the Princess Yachts ethos. Rather than relying on overt statements, the Princess F55 distinguishes itself through quiet coherence, meticulous craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of how owners truly live on board.

For Henry, time spent aboard has only reinforced that the most enduring yachts strike a careful balance, presence without excess, design without compromise, and performance that inspires confidence. In this regard, the Princess F55 stands as an assured expression of the brand’s philosophy, a yacht designed not just to impress at first glance, but to reward ownership over time.
