Job Title: Head of Supplier Quality Assurance
Reports to: Direct or Purchasing and Logistics
Hours of Work: 39hrs per week, Mon – Thurs 7.30am – 4.30pm, Fri 7.30am – 12.30pm

Resource Responsibilities

Directly manage and develop a team of Supplier Quality Assurance Engineers.

Main Purpose of Role

  • Work in partnership with the New Product Development teams to ensure the timely
  • Nomination of suppliers capable of meeting our quality expectations
  • To manage and develop a portfolio of suppliers to ensure parts supply to production to specification
  • Prepare management reports and KPI’s for Exec review and to drive continuous improvement
  • Work in partnership with the Head of Materials Planning to ensure 100% supplier performance OTIF to Specification

Responsibilities / Tasks 

  • Manage a team of SQA Engineers and a portfolio of suppliers to ensure 100% of parts are delivered OTIF to specification
  • Work with production to ensure rapid resolution of any supplier component quality concerns
  • Ensure New Products Gateways are achieved throughout the development process and support a seamless launch with quality parts
  • Develop and implement systems and processes for the effective selection, monitoring and development of our suppliers
  • Utilization and development of associated IT / MRP systems to effectively measure and drive supplier and component quality performance
  • Build effective relationships with existing and potential suppliers
  • Implement policy for incoming goods inspection
  • Coach, train & develop the team and where necessary recruit new staff

Strategic Interface 

  • Work with senior management to achieve company targets
  • Integrate with New Product Development Team to implement supplier quality and component quality solutions at launch for all New Products. Ensure all SQA Gateway objectives are delivered and presented at Gateway reviews
  • Work with the Head of Materials Planning (supplier management) to ensure supplier performance encompassing delivery and quality
  • Work with SH&E team to ensure that agenda is embedded within the department

Person Specification

  • Senior Supplier Quality Management & Development experience at a bluechip company
  • Experience with the introduction of new Supplier Nomination and Selection Processes systems
  • Experience of PPAP management and problem solving techniques
  • Proven track record of managing significant supplier development programs
  • Proven and demonstrable experience acting as a change agent – both managing and being instrumental in those changes
  • Thorough knowledge of all parts of Supply Chain management
  • Experience in lean manufacturing, 8D analysis, 6S Audits and six sigma project management
  • Strong Leadership with excellent communication skills and the ability to form and develop a team
  • Excellent IT skills – communication, spreadsheets, presentations
  • Project Management – able to plan, organise and lead projects from inception to completion
