Job Title: Development Engineer Reports to: Head of Development Engineering Hours of Work: 39hrs per week Mon – Thurs 7.30am – 4.30pm, Fri 7.30am – 12.30pm
Main Purpose of Role
To assist in the design and development of all aspects of Engineering for the assigned project.
Responsibilities / Tasks
To plan and schedule the assigned project to meet the New Product Development Schedule. (DEVSUM)
To ensure all systems and designs follow the GWI, DS and good engineering practices and are mechanically and electrically ‘safe’.
To ensure all designs meet CE, ABYC, RINA, LY3 compliance as appropriate.
To assist with system design and positioning of all ‘mechanical’ equipment & services. (e.g. Fresh, black, grey and Bilge water systems; Fuel systems; Air-conditioning & Central heating systems; Fire systems; Ventilation; Services & service routes; Domestic equipment; Engines and engine related systems and ancillary equipment; Generators and related systems; Hydraulic and stabilizer systems ).
To assist with system design and positioning of all of all electrical systems and services (eg Panel boards; control box’s; Distribution boxes; cable looms; Navigation equipment; Domestic equipment; Multiplex systems; System interfaces; Software as appropriate)
To ensure ‘intergrated design’ working and liaising with all other disciplines as appropriate.
To review all installations to ensure they are correctly intergrated within the context of the wider boat assembly (Structure/furniture/mouldings).
To assist in the production and scheduled delivery of the required information & instructions for Engineering Bills of Materials (BOM), Engineering O55’s, Pre-build sub-assemblies & Boat Looms.
To assist in the production and scheduled delivery of information for in-house Engineering parts (e.g. Metal shop/Plastic Shop/Kit parts/Small Moulds etc).
To assist in the production and scheduled delivery of information for the InfoHub to produce the boat specific Engineering work instructions.
To provide Engineering support for boat assembly/Fitout operations for the first 3 build slots.
To provide Engineering support for Sales & Aftersales related functions.
To promote and enforce team Health and Safety
Acting as an Ambassador for Princess Yachts, operating with integrity and drive appropriate to the Company’s values, to promote Princess as a market leader.
To meet the Development Schedule (DevSum) for the assigned project.
Development - (eg Development Engineering Team members; External Naval Architects; Sales department; Internal Naval Architect Team; Design department; Composites department; CAD department; Info Hub department; NSO department)
Supply Chain - (eg External suppliers & Manufacturers; Purchasing department; Metal Shop; Prebuild & loom shop; Kit Parts; Large and small moulding departments)
Assembly/Production/Boat fitout – Management and shop floor staff (all factories).
Good engineering background with minimum 2 years experience
Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure
Good knowledge of Princess existing mechanical & electrical engineering systems and practices.
Good knowledge of Princess existing loom design.
Knowledge of DC electrical systems including: 24V DC systems, 12V DC systems, DC safety and compliance requirements. Strong understanding of low voltage DC control and monitoring systems. Programming experience an advantage
Knowledge of AC electrical systems including:- 220V 50Hz 1 Phase systems; 400V 50Hz 3 Phase systems; 220V/110V 60Hz Split phase systems, AC safety and compliance requirements. Understanding of AC switching equipment, Transformers, Inverters & Power Converters
Ability to use computers; Ability & experience with 2D (& 3D) drawing packages
