Position:  Design Engineer
Location:  Plymouth
Salary: Depending on experience
Duration: Permanent
Hours of Work: Mon – Thurs 7.30am – 4.30pm & Fri 7.30am – 12.30pm (39hrs per week)

Main Goals and Objectives

The Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Naval Archtecture team in generating solutions for a range of development projects in areas including compliance activities, composite design and mechanisms. Main activities will comprise the production of 3D models, 2D drawings and technical specifications, ensuring that any work produced meets with overarching company deliverables and quality requirements.



  • Development of components that meet the project brief, budget and quality standards
  • Ensure deliverables are met within a timely manner, as per the departmental work schedule
  • Produce accurate models and drawings, which contain sufficient and accurate manufacturing information
  • Generate comprehensive technical specifications
  • Utilise Design Standards to ensure the standard of development work is upheld and to minimise unnecessary rework
  • Action any rework through the use of the company’s change management system
  • Create relevant Bills of Materials
  • Maintain collaboration with supporting Development teams
  • Act as an ambassador for Princess Yachts, operating with integrity and drive appropriate to the company’s values, to promote Princess as a market leader


  • Comparable experience or degree in: Design Engineering, Mechanical Design/Engineering, Product Design, Composites Engineering or Naval Architecture (or similar)
  • Desire for career growth
  • Strong communication skills at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work to tight time scales
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite software
  • Experience using 2D CAD for drawing creation and 3D CAD software for modeling or surfacing (Siemens NX and Teamcentre would be advantageous)
  • An understanding of technical drawing standards
  • Materials and fabrication knowledge would be beneficial
